Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a quantitative test that measures the mineral composition of hair, (precise to parts per million). It is a safe and non-invasive test that detects the levels of nutrients and toxic elements in body tissue such as hair follicles.

Minerals are essential for hair growth, healing, vitality, and well-being. They provide structural support in hair follicles and skin and maintain the body’s pH, nerve activity, muscle contractions, energy production, and enzyme reactions. They are the basic ‘spark plugs’ of life. Our health and well-being may be aggravated by mineral imbalances and toxic metal excesses, leading to hair loss, and scalp conditions.

Ideally, we should get all the minerals we need from our diet. Unfortunately, today this is rarely possible. Modern farming techniques, fertilisers, and depleted soils reduce the mineral content of foods. Environmental pollutants, chemical food additives, pharmaceutical medicines, and stressful lifestyles also have a detrimental effect on our nutritional status, which has a knock-on on effect with the health of our hair.

Using HTMA for hair loss and scalp conditions allows for a better understanding of causes and contributing factors, enabling you to get the most successful outcome.

Benefits of a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis for hair loss concerns

  • Hair specimens can be collected more quickly and easily than blood. It’s non-invasive.
  • Hair provides a record of the past. Hair loss conditions can be chronic and getting a good history is important.
  • Hair is a valuable measurement of toxic metal levels – high metals can interfere with your hair-growing cycle.
  • Hair testing measures mineral imbalances and their ratios.
  • HTMA is an alternative to needles if you don’t like them.

On the right is an example of an HTMA report.

This example shows low levels of many essential nutritional elements and high levels of a toxic element.

HTMA is an in-clinic service and is available only after your initial consultation.

The cost of a Comprehensive Interpretive HTMA Report is $295 and includes a follow-up appointment to discuss your results.

The report measures minerals in parts per million with the highest level of accuracy and reproducibility. The analysis and recommendations are comprehensive and informative, with expertise that comes from testing over 1.5 million samples.

The report provides a detailed nutritional health discussion of test results commenting on mineral balances, ratios, metabolic type, trends, dietary suggestions, potential food allergens, areas of concern (with possible contributing factors) and supplemental recommendations.
